Jamboree Activities

The Activities during AJ2007 were plentiful. Activities were Patrol-based and in order to earn their Jamboree Award, Scouts needed to complete most activities which gave them a chance to put their Scouting skills into practice. Each Patrol had four days offsite; two days of planned activities onsite, one day as Duty Patrol, and one day at Game On Activities.

Offsite activities included:

Riverforce – Echuca – Half the day was spent at an oval with activity bases learning the skills that a crew member of an Echuca Paddle Steamer would use. This included skills such as throwing a rope at a hook to moor a boat, and transferring water from bucket to bucket in case of a leak in a boat.

Bushwacked – Campaspe Weir – Activities based on Ned Kelly.

Ready Set Bendigo – Bendigo – Explored the city of Bendigo, went down a disused mine, and visited a Science Centre. The Blue Brigade i.e. the Scouts, took over the town!

Wet Wild Windy – Lake Nagambie – The Scouts went canoeing, kayaking, rode sliipery slides and messed about on pool inflatables.

Onsite activities included:

Game-On Activities were also onsite. These were Patrol-based, drop-in style activities which were fun, challenging, and quite often involved a lot of mud! The flying activity Sky High was immensely popular. There were 15 planes using an airfield that usually has sheep on it when the Jamboree isn't on. In the WA Contingent HQ, Scouts could learn to mix music with DJ Dribl and funky grooves were broadcasting across the campsite on a daily basis. There was a wonderful interactive museum of activities and fun showing the last hundred years of Scouting. Curators were originally not sure how young people would react to the exhibition but their appreciation of Scouting’s heritage was most impressive. Lord Baden-Powell’s grandson, Michael Baden-Powell was also in attendance.

Other great onsite activities were:

  • Venture Extreme
  • Planet Blitz
  • Rocksports
  • X-Site
